'If you don't dance, you can't DJ'- Danny Rampling

I couldn’t agree more! I discovered I loved to dance when I was 11 and went to my first dance 'event'- my brothers wedding reception. I was busting moves to the O’Jays, Earth Wind and Fire and Barry White the whole time. It was the music, they way it made me feel, that got me moving and must have fired the passion, and as a bonus it was a great way to meet girls. Growing up during that time I was too young to go to real clubs, but there was always the school disco and then 'teen discos'. Back then you didn’t tell your rock friends that you liked to go to disco’s, and I do remember seeing a few of them one night throwing eggs at us disco warriors with the popular war cry ‘disco sucks’, as we waited with the crowd to get into the club.

Well the rockers won and disco was officially declared 'dead'. So after disco died it wasn’t until I moved to the UK that I was awakened to a whole new music scene, like disco on steroids. Anyone involved with that scene from the early nineties onwards will tell you what magic times they were, and my passion for music was ‘re-stoked’.

I have always loved to experience the music as a clubber but I bought my set of decks after my first trip to Ibiza. It wasn’t just because I had been compelled to visit mega music and buy the records that were the soundtrack to an awesome holiday, and needed something to play them on. It was the fact that I experienced clubbing in a way like never before. Watching the sun come up through the huge dome at Privelege, dancing all day in the sunshine on the terrace at Space- with the most up for it, happy friendly crowd. More than anything, it was the sense of unity and the energy created by the DJ and shared by everyone at the same time. For the first time in my life I thought, of all the places in the world, this is exactly where I wanted to be, right here right now.

From that point onward I have been driven to share this passion for house music and the feeling it can give people. It sounds cliché but to me DJing is not about fancy tricks, having the most upfront obscure tunes or the latest and greatest technology. Its about the music and how it makes people feel. I enjoy dancing and sharing that feeling whichever side of the DJ box I am on, and always will.

The Spirit of Ibiza is in my soul
My ‘style’ is definitely based on DJs that have influenced me as a clubber- like Danny Rampling, Frankie Knuckles, Danny Tenaglia...there are just too many to mention. But also the not so famous, the DJ’s with a 'day job' that spend everything they earn on records and throwing parties for nothing more than the love of house. My style is also influenced by all the great experiences I have had as a clubber, think sunshine party atmosphere on the terrace at Space or Bora Bora Beach in Ibiza.
